There are a lot of flaws with performance ratings. Just ask a company who recently scrapped them.

The problems with 'cashing' performance ratings as numbers on a scale have been well known for at least thirty years: for a refresher as to why this is, I recommend Robert Townsend's classic (and very funny) 'Up The Organisation', and its sequel - 'Further Up the Organisation'. Townsend rescued the broken Avis Corp, and knows his stuff- and he has been on the better Reading Lists since 1972.
