Politicians trained in Mossad self-defence techniques

The national intelligence agency of Israel known as Mossad are famous for developing Krav Maga - Hebrew for 'contact-combat'.

It is a form of self-defence that draws from judo, boxing and wrestling, and can be used to tackle opponents carrying guns and knives.

Now, all British Members of Parliament are being offered free training in Krav Maga to protect themselves against ‘lone wolf’ attacks carried out by the likes of stalkers, terrorists and political extremists.

It also comes after the death of MP Jo Cox who was stabbed and shot in the street outside her constituency surgery in Birstall.

In particular, the training focuses on swinging punches to the head, in addition to attempted knife attacks.

Two MPs and 18 parliamentary assistants took part in the first session in Whitehall, which is being offered by Parli-Training - a specialist training company that provides intensive vocational training courses.

"We are teaching them techniques where if someone comes at them with a knife or a gun, they can disarm the weapons and then run. They are not being taught how to fight," the company founder Mendora Ogbogbo was quoted as saying by The Telegraph.

“Another technique we are teaching them is called the ‘rhino’, where they know how to cover the vulnerable parts of their heads when someone is punching them. This will give them a vital three or four minutes before someone intervenes.

“We also teach a method where if someone is lying on top of them in a fight, they can wriggle from under them and run.”

A recent study found that 81% of MPs had experienced aggressive or intrusive behaviour from members of the public, one in five had been attacked or threatened with attack, and 42% had been threatened with harm.

Moreover, more than half of the 239 MPs who took part in the study had endured experiences which met the legal definition of “stalking or harassment”.

In Australia, it was recently reported that a few of Sydney’s largest shopping centres are preparing for a possible terrorist attack by training retailers and staff.

This included retailers at the Queen Victoria Building who received a memo saying that staff would receive training in handling active shooter and explosive device situations.
